Knowledge validation
I validated my knowledge of this project through extensive research of design considerations and passive solar principles. I validated my knowledge of the OP process through research on writing and through the mentorship of my main advisor and Jennifer English. See Annotated resource page for details.
The Myth of OP4
Simha and the Magic Glass
In a little hermitage nestled in eastern mountains of the New World lived Simha and his wife Janaki. Janaki was home alone all day, when Simha would come home from work she would complain that their hermitage was too cold. One day while at work Simha asks the Sun to help him solve his problem. That very same day he found a large piece of glass on the side of the road, and heard a voice saying, "Your problem is resolved."
Simha took the magic glass home not knowing what to do he set it against the wall of the hermitage. The Sun shined through the glass and it began to glow. Simha approached the glass putting his hand behind it he felt a great heat! When he mounted the glass onto the wall of the hermitage the Sun’s words were fulfilled.
Solar Azimuth
To calculate how much exposure your panel will get you need to calculate the Solar azimuth. First you must find true south, here is how - rimstar.org/renewnrg/finding_true_south_pole.htm then follow the procedure in the first two links of my annotated resources. Below is my Azimuth chart. The red upper horizon marks the exposure when the trees have their leaves, the orange marks without.
Updating WIkispace
The screen shot below is me uploading various PSP PDFs to my Permaculture Resource library. It has been a long time since I have put time into this website and it felt good bringing in some new content.
OP5 Learning review mindmap
I created a mindmap for OP5 Learning review (Year in review) using Ava's collection OP6: Learning Review. You can download the entire mindmap here - https://www.dropbox.com/s/5v24fdhuu72u76t/Learning%20review%20template.xmind. See the contents branch below.
SketchUp Prototypes
SketchUp Prototypes video
The video above is a compilation of still shots of the various Prototypes I created on Sketchup. The first image is a line up of the various prototypes I built. Second is a series of stills of the final prototype I used for the PSP, and finally there are some random shots of various parts of the different models.
Timeline from journals
I created an illustrated timeline by copying and pasting pieces of my journal entries and then attached a photo to create timeline events for this project here is the link After failing to embed it I posted to the Mahara forum here. I got two answers explaining the situation. Finding out I can't embed it because of a protective setting. I have tried to get Gaia U to add it to the list of accepted iframe HTML sites, and am still waiting for a response.
Intro to Permaculture Switzerland
I attended an introduction to Permaculture at the University of Lausanne, Switzerland. It is always good to reconnect with the Swiss Guild and see where the movement is and how it is expanding! To see more about this experience see my Guild notes with Charles.

First illustration of PSP
This is the first image I made of how the PSP functions. I made a new image because my design changed.
Other PS projects
The Photo gallery above: 1st photo is a SketchUp prototype of a special greenhouse/food dehydrator I came up with and hope to build in the future. 2nd photo is a friend's cob yurt type building I helped with, which has PSP built into the front of it. 3rd photo is a passive solar food dehydrator I bulit in Mexico for a friend. 4th photo is a little solar oven/cold-frame I built several years back.
More Construction Skillflexing
During this cycle I also helped Mark Krawczyk on his land. Our activities varied but most of my learning was from helping him in the construction of his Barn/Office, see this minute long slide show. I got more comfortable using a nail-gun and pneumatic stapler. I was also in on some of the design and problem solving work, which is always a confidence builder.
