Reflections on design process

Challenges

Although I am using GaSADIE for designing this OP and the previous ones, however I think I am unconsciously using other approaches, especially GaSADIMET but without proper documentation. Some of the challenges I still face on this front include:

To pay attention to my internal process while working on the design.
To document these processes
Do all that in English while I still struggle with some vocabulary and expressions.

I guess this is a huge learning edge for me that I hope would continue to address if future programmes.

Benefits

On the other hand, the GaSADIE approach is quite familiar, easy to handle and to communicate with others. I became quite familiar with this approach that I felt confident to use at work since the main component of my work is about initiation and administration of small projects. I used this framework to document our team’s operational procedure starting from initiating a project and ending with evaluation. The document was also rich with mind maps that describes detailed steps related to each stage of the project cycle. The document was received with high appreciation by our management.

Cyniffen model

Describing my pathway progress over the capstone cycle was a bit confusing at the beginning. I knew from the beginning that I was operating in highly unknown situation, surrounded by personal challenges and contextual complexities, all while I was stepping into a whole new area of knowledge with lots of things to learn and lots of inner transitions that need to take place.

When I went back into the orientation material, the Cyniffen model proved to be a very useful tool to describe my context and guide my planning. According to this model I could describe the situation as total chaos as I started my capstone year back in 2014, but it’s becoming more like complex especially during the past year.
