Outcomes

Producing the research paper is still in progress, I am almost done with the first and second chapters. I was recently given chance to submit this research to a seminar that will be organized by the Ministry of Environment in May around Proper Disposal of Organic Waste. To be able to participate, the research paper needs to be fully completed by end of March.

Additionally, the research paper will go through peer and professional review process in parallel with GAIA U’s review. Peer review will be provided by Dima and Riad, while professional review will be done by Dr. Ali Zedan as initial stage, and also by the seminar board in April.

Feedback of this process, impact and final products are going to be subject of another output packet during the capstone year.

Other validation groups are people who became interested in the idea and want to start experimenting it including: my parents, my sister and her sister in law, my colleague at UNDP, and my cousin in Aleppo. Hopfully I will report on their experiments in the coming OP.

While doing the research provided I met unexpected bonus results:

-          Better networking with environmental activists in Damascus and understanding their scope of interests and fields of action

-          Presenting myself as an active researcher, to replace the limited image of executive assistant

-          Was a great chance for introducing permaculture, as the topic I am working on, action research and experiential learning as implemented by Gaia U.

Based on the outcomes of this work, I will follow the same route in the future when addressing other topics like urban agriculture, aquaponics, rainwater harvesting.
