A Special Note on Specialization:
Before describing in detail my personal, professional and project based goals, I would like to share one of my favorite quotes from The Critical Path about the specialization of humans in Chapter 3 entitled, Legally Piggily, where R. B. Fuller is discussing the King’s strategy to keep and maintain power:
The most important initial instinct of the most powerful individual or of his organized power structure is, “Divide to conquer, and to keep conquered, keep divided.”
“Each of you mind only your own business. … I’m the only one that minds everyone’s business.” …
“Yes sir.” …
And his total strategy became the pattern for the ultimate founding of Oxford University.
The way the power structure keeps the wit and cunning of the intelligentsia [who are not musclemen] from making trouble for the power structure is to make each one a specialist with tools and an office or lab. That is exactly why bright people today have become streamlined into specialists.
Ecology of Personal Learning Journey:
The ecology of my personal learning journey includes: the dynamic between English and Spanish, CA state recognized business certifications, Permaculture Design, photovoltaics, aquaponics, landscaping and growing my talents in a cohesive way. I chose the metaphor of the 3-phase sine wave to represent how my life path consists of the personal, professional and project oriented goals all intertwined and moving in harmony together. Each of the three phases of the alternating current are 120 degrees separate from the next, creating a beautiful balance and allowing for a smaller conductor to transmit more electrical power. In this way, my life moves forward with care of family and self, career decisions, and, “things to get done,” in an intricate balance.
Please click this link to get to the 3-phase sine wave timeline that illustrates my personal, professional and project based goals. The timeline goes from left to right, and you may use the arrow keys on your keyboard to switch between the events and goals listed. The calendar date is highlighted in blue on the bottom of the page. The time frame starts when I returned to California from Central America on January 22, 2013, and goes up until around mid-October of 2013, when I hope to complete the MSc program. When there are 2 or more goals listed on a single date, you may have to push the arrow key more than once to skip ahead to the next calendar date. There are also goals that have links to workshops, projects and events. For example, on July 10th, 2013, if you click on, ‘more’ on Building and Aquaponics you will be brought to a lightbox with a description. If you then click the button that says, ‘find out more,’ you will be brought to a New York City Friendly Aquaponics 5-day training course that I would love to attend.
