Herman the Worm song by The Learning Station
This is the song I adapted my story "hermie the worm" from. I used items such as: lettuce, a strawberry, an orange, loaf of bread, and a newspaper. It went:
Herman was playing in the dirt of the garden bed when he remembered what his mother said, "Hermie, don't eat too much before dinner." But the smell that was coming his direction made his mouth quiver.
When he got home, he was this ------ big. His mom asked, "Hermie, what did you eat!?" He said," Um, I had some lettuce". The story then proceeded with the same lines and the food items would progessively get bigger as well as the worm. When the worm shrunk back down I had left it open- ended and asked the kids what they thought happend. Their initial response was that he burped and I reassured them that worms do not burp, but that hermie left a casting and that's why he shrunk back down.
This song was very beneficial in creating my storyline.
BDIOE Design Method Elaboration
Here is an elaboration on my Observe and Evaluate section of the BDIOE design method:
Observe:
- Desired outcome? I did achieve my desired outcome and the process was simple, and my time-frame was realistic. I not only achieved my desirable outcome but as well as the outcome of my clients.
- Any interventions? Yes there were at least two intervention points throughout this project. One dealing with weather/location and the other dealing with time management in the classroom for the development of the project.
Evaluate:
- Meet goals? Personal/Professional? I met the goals the clients had in place and I met so many P goals (some even unknowingly) throughout the development of this project. I paid attention to the intentional mindset and then after completion made a reflection on assests gained.
- What could have been done differently? There could have been more communication on the timing of when I wanted to work on the project. I could have give a specific list of dates and times for my co-workers to enable the completion of the project to its fullest.
- What went well? I think my management of time and for supporting the brainstorming efforts of the cliental went really well. They were able to feel heard and supported and invested in the project.
- Next steps? Maintain system, monitor for pest control ( a fear of the clients are an accumulation of bugs). Stir system and have kids observe what's happening. Expand the small-scale idea into a larger idea outside for another composting system that is capable of consuming waste from the whole center.
