Evidence of engagement

I missed the first call but you can read my feedback here

The second call was helpful and as there was only a small group of us, we all got the chance to share in depth what was going on. I found it very useful talking about my projects out loud and as Andrew articulated during the call, I could sense my ideas being clarified as I spoke them. It's really great knowing that I have people who think similarly and are interested in this type of stuff that are listening on the other end. That in itself is quite empowering.

I also met with both my adviser Liam and my mentor Mark during this process. Both meetings were very helpful. With Liam, I find that he is very good at helping me uncover thought patterns and more philosophical/conceptual problem solving. Each of our calls so far have resulted in significant un/learning moments for me.

With Mark our conversation was a lot more technical, talking mostly about more specific techniques and tools. This was really beneficial and complemented my conversations with Liam nicely. Below is an email I received from Mark after our call that I wanted to share as its full of useful resources:

Managing and tracking your progress

It will be very important to closely track my progress, and I plan on doing so mostly with the use of this LIPD and the timelines I have built for it. As there is significant overlap in the three projects I have laid out, I will need to look ahead and make sure I'm making progress toward each completion date that I have laid out.

My plan is to stick as close to the plan as I can. Part of this has to do with intentionally contradicting some unproductive patterns I have with regard to getting off track and not seeing things through to the end. If interested, you can read a short piece I wrote for the managing time, managing promises unit about this (with specific mention of this LIPD) here

The tools I have been using for project management include Kanban Flow, Google Calendars, Scrivener, and Xmind. I will continue to improve the ways in which I use these tools together to manage and track my progress with my work. This includes regular journaling and reflection along the way, which I am getting better at but would like to continue making forward progress with.

I will also be talking with both my main advisor and mentor once a month, and have plans to speak regularly with my guild buddies Brett and Charlie over the course of the year to conduct think and listens. This will create increased accountability and support for challenges that may arise.
