Motive

I want to begin here by articulating my motivation for doing this work. I hope by doing so I can create a focus for my energy that I can continually return to when I feel myself being led astray or distracted by other influences. This pinpointing of a single motive central to my un/learning journey and the resulting project work is essential and is a promise to myself and those reading this that all efforts will serve it directly.

So what is my motivation? I'm going to name it: Resilient Wellness. Sustainable Well-being. Multigenerational health and happiness.

What does it mean to have Resilient Wellness? I think it is something that can take an infinite number of forms and whose definition for me is always evolving, but it does seem to have some consistent elements. For the purpose of my own understanding I have organized the concept into 3 parts of the whole: Body or physical health, Mind or psychological health, and Heart or spiritual health. I do not believe true Resilient Wellness can be achieved if any of the three aspects are neglected.

It is my own personal view that the greatest gift I can give to my family, my community, and to the Earth itself, is a well me. It is the gift that keeps on giving, and the source from which all my contributions flow. A well me is creating, teaching, building, inspiring, writing, sharing and helping out. It is the me that is involved, that has the energy to help evolve systems and the patience to bring up the next generation with a more holistic perspective than the last. Without it I am lazy, victimized, disconnected and an energy drain to those around me.

In other words, the most effective way for me to create wellness for others is to be well myself first. So it is this point I will continually focus and reflect on. I will ask myself with every step: how does this serve my Resilient Wellness?

Below is a chart mapping some initial elements for each of the 3 aspects of health mentioned above. I plan to expand this concept as my work continues.

Resilient Wellness

Elements

To the left is a chart mapping some initial elements for each of the 3 aspects of health mentioned above. I've found more developed systems like the chakras also useful and easily integrated into this more simplified model. I think history has shown that dividing a complex reality into 3 elements can be particularly useful (Father, Son, Holy Spirit) and this is really nothing more than an adaptation of the same idea. It could be seen as 3 relationships.

The practical use of this model is to reflect back on it with each decision that has to be made, asking oneself how this decision will effect each element (or each relationship to it).
