A Note to Readers and Reviewers about Navigation
Welcome readers and reviewers to my MSc Capstone phase OP3! This OP consists of 10 pages, organized into 3 main sections: 1) the Commentary, which is made up of various elements specific to my Gaia U pathway, 2) the Core Report, which documents the project work done, the theories and content I engaged with during this cycle, and outlines the main outcomes (you may wish to skip ahead to this section if you are not a Gaia U reviewer), and 3) the Supporting Evidence section which includes annotated resources and additional design documents. For official reviewers, the OP is designed to be read from front to back — for everyone else, please feel welcome to skip around and engage with the content that piques your interest. All feedback is very appreciated and thanks so much for your time and attention!
Abstract
The following Output Packet evidences several projects I engaged with during this cycle, all of which are related to developing online learning experiences: designing and developing websites and elearning platforms for both Gaia U and my Wired Roots business, creating an interactive guide titled ‘7 Principles for Transformative Virtual Learning Experiences’, developing an online course titled 'Living & Learning by Design', creating a free introductory course for all Gaia U programs, and making a learning design portfolio on Wordpress.
This cycle was packed with action learning experiences and supported with good amount of research on topics such as learning experience design, user experience design, psychology, cognitive science, behavior, learning theories, iterative design approaches, regenerative design, living systems theory and more. I’ve aimed to capture the key insights and learnings that came up for me during this intense and productive period, and I’m confident there is much value here for anyone interested in a fresh perspective on learning design that integrates principles from regenerative design and living systems science.
OP Design Methodology
This OP was designed using the SADIM model, which consists of 5 stages: Survey, Assess/Analyze, Design, Implement, and Maintain.
I have experimented with various models and approaches over the years with Output Packets - some from others, some experimental models of my own, and some hybrid models.
I decided to return to the simplicity of the SADIM model for this OP, though my approach to design for the project work was in general more integrative as well as more iterative. You can see more detail about these projects and the approaches I used for each on the Purpose and Process page in the Core Report.
To see how I used SADIM for this OP in more detail, see the page on Design Documents.
Structure & Word Count
The following mind map shows the structure of the OP content and word counts for Gaia U reviewers. Please note that all sections marked with a yellow star are part of the official word count - since this OP is over the minimum word count, if you are an official Gaia U review and have a limited amount of time, please be sure to read the starred sections first.
