Permaculture Work Study Program Overview
There are two distinct programs that fall under the umbrella program know as the Residentail Permaculture Work Study Program—a seven month program designed for students who desire to spend an entire growing season living and working in intentional community, and a three month program designed for college students who only have the summer to contribute before they must return to classes in late August. Participants in either program may earn internship credits from an outside university or training program with whom we have established a memorandum of agreement with.
The Work Study Program involves a combination of work in our gardens, and with the livestock and incorporates opportunities to work in other departments of the community such as the kitchen and youth programs. Once a week on “Permaculture Wednesdays” we dedicate a day to learning more about the technical theory and philosophy of permaculture, and work on permaculture related projects such as planting and maintenance in our food forest areas, creation of permanent beds, and other hands-on activities. There is also a very important academic component to our work study program here at Sunrise Ranch. Click the "Independent Study Project” tab at the top of this page to learn more about the various opportunities students have to do research and implement new skills and passions.
