This page is an outline of the ten Output Packets I intend to do over the next 2 years and a timeline for my studies this coming year with Gaia U.


OUTPUT PACKET OUTLINES

OP 2  ENERGY:Catch and Store Energy
Discuss the benefits of renewable energy compared with current heavy fossil fuel usage in the industrialized world particularly emphasizing solar energy.  This is under the petal of appropriate technologies of the permaculture flower.  Document (multimedia) a 1 kWatt photovoltaic system in Baja.  Provide economic and ecological information about going solar.  Discuss general battery information.  Discuss energy under broad strokes compared with electricity and how power plants and solar energy (especially photovoltaics) work  -- include graphs/charts/links.  Include information on regular usage for American homes and standard appliances. Construct a lesson plan for a two hour presentation on Energy that includes some information as well as other approaches to energy including hands on with batteries/ PV cells/ plants gathering solar energy.

OP 3  HERBALISM : Everything is Connected
Discuss the petal of Health & Spiritual Well Being on the permaculture flower.  Broad strokes covering holistic medicine, nutrition, yoga, and concentrate specifically on herbalism.  Document building a medicinal and edible herb spiral.  Explore the history of herbalism from ancient Egyptian, Chinese, Indian and GrecoRoman times through Middle Ages and today.   Incorporate learning from my East West Herb School Program.  Contrast herbalism and pharmaceuticals on personal and planetary health.   Discuss methods of herbal remedies including recipes for salves, tinctures, poultices and liniments.  
Construct a lesson plan for a two hour presentation on Herbalism including interactive relationship to plants, feeling plants, meditating on the energy of plants, making our own salve or tincture..

OP 4  LAND OF MILK & HONEY : Obtain a Yield
Document the workshop I facilitate at Esalen Institute teaching people about small scale food production including cheesemaking, breadmaking, fermenting foods and dehydrating.  Beekeeping and honey extraction complements the milk of cheesemaking in this land of milk & honey.  Discuss small scale animal husbandry and beekeeping  Construct a two hour presentation on the workshop itself incorporating basic information on cheesemaking and beekeeping and microbial cultures used in fermentation and breadmaking.  Include in the two hour class a hands-on introduction to cultures/fermenting vegetables and a bee pollen tasting.

OP 6 INTENTIONS

OP7 SEEDS  : Make the Least Change for the Greatest Possible Effect
Take an extended class on seed saving (perhaps seed school with Bill McDormand.) Document saving easy and intermediate seeds.  Discuss plant sexuality and pollination.  Take people a virtual tour of bee-ing the pollinator.  This combines my passion for flowers and macro photography with gardening and saving seeds.  

OP 8  SOIL : Cyclical Opportunity
Incorporate many aspects of soil management including mulching and compost and mushrooms. Include experiential interactivity with soil and Natural building (cob).  Take a course with Paul Stamets.  Construct a two hour course on Soil incorporating the texture and science of soil, the miracles of mushrooms and uses for soil including natural building and nourishing our bodies and souls.  A general shake test is a powerful tool to give people a sense of seeing constituents of soil.

OP9 HEALING Zone 0 : Integrate rather than Segregate
Integrate my interests in healing ranging from teaching yoga, gardening, massage therapy and natural foods catering to design a path to market myself as a lifestyle consultant including nutrition, gardening, stress management, exercise, herbalism and meditation.

Construct a lesson plan for a two hour presentation on water.  Take a course on drylands strategies water management to improve my understanding of "Greening the desert"
