How wolves change rivers
Beautiful video showing how everything within ecosystems is interconnected. It follows the decimation of the wolves from Yellowstone and the fallout of many other species impacting, yes, even the rivers.

Good worksheet on soil for kids. Helps me realize that others have tried to illustrate basic patterns for kids, which I am trying to do for adults and kids. Good glossary to consider.

Ginger

Although I had luck with both bags and flat trays, this article gave me helpful hints on growing ginger and inspired me to play. I had loads of luck and was amazed at how shallow the roots of ginger are.

Great book on the flowers common in the flower arranging trade.
Some techniques to work with flowers. Recommends products and techniques for flower vases to last longer and techniques for ease of working with flowers.

Uses Scotch tape to help create structure especially with a wider mouth vase. Felt a bit like a commercial that showcased some interesting flower arranging in order to sell things that hold this. Interesting look at modern marketing and information. I quite enjoy watching people creat flower arrangements.

This was the best video I saw on pruning roses. He gives a nice breakdown . I don't like his beginning but even then he articulates some of the best practices.

Good resource on how to process aloe and some of its benefits when used internally. I learned to let the yellow bitter laxative drip out for a day before processing the aloe.

Organic method of harvesting microbes from around old-growth trees to inoculate into garden soil. 10 minutes.
LSB Air Layering
Part of My Learning Support Budget was spent on a wonderful Mexican nurseryman named Herebierto. He taught and inspired in me many things. Below we see my training in his very effective Air Layering technique. Up until then, I had had limited success with air layering. Key pieces were wrapping it tighter and using a very porous sphagnum moss blend. And to the right is an unknown good benefit of our time together. He took some of the myrrh seeds off of my tree and successfully sprouted about a dozen. He gifted my 5 myrrh seedlings of which 3 are still living.
Questions from Sierra School Tour
What is your definition of permaculture?
Permaculture is a contraction of Permanent and Culture (or Agriculture)
Permaculture is a regenerative design approach that stresses the importance of relationships: working with nature and caring for other humans as well.
The three primary ethics are
• Earth Care
• People Care
• Fair Share
Many people only think of the land stewardship aspect of Permaculture; however, the energy, water awareness, building materials,
For me, the relocalization of our entire way of life is part of the tools that permaculture provides: this incorporates energy (solar and wind and microhydro), how we build (more natural materials), food production, economies.
Why are you a gardener?
I love it. I'm following my bliss. It's how I want to spend my day.
How is your garden unique?
For Baja, I plant much more densely than many people. This creates a lush tropical feel in our desert tropical climate. I am hopeful that within ten years, I will have VERY low water needs (basically just supplemental to increase fruit yields) which is better than many people with Way fewer plants. Part of this is the design of creating a canopy and creating soil that holds water so that water is honored and guarded more effectively in our garden.
What is your vision and project for your garden?
Permaculture also points out the importance of acknowledging things as resources. Which is indeed the relationship of one thing to another. Occasionally my neighbors have a waster product like an old glass bottle or some yard trimmings that I see as a resource. This is solely dependent upon what relationship I am in with this thing.
Resources in my garde
For me, the most obvious in our garden would include some of the fruits, part of our perennial polycultural food forest:
FOOD
pomegranite, banana, plantain, herbs (rosemary, oregano, mint), cashew, coconuts, chocolate, pomegranite, suriname cherry, capilene cherry, cinnamon, allspice, tamarind, guanabana, sapote, chocolate sapote, sapodilla,
Medicines are also common in permaculture farms:
kava, aloe, calendula, oregano, holy basil, albizzia, neem, comfrey
Fiber: agave, coconut (basket weaving)
Ceremonial: white sage
Scents: Frankincense, myrrh, copal, holy basil
Soil builders (this can as nitrogen fixers, good mulchers, canopy trees,
comfrey, aloe, compound pinnates, booganvilla,
Beauty is a huge resource for me (although not as regularly talked about within permaculture gardens). I have a great book called Cut Flowers of the World and I purchased over 75 vases this year so that I can practice my bouquet making.
You can probably see many of the flowers as we tour the garden
Right now, I am also using my garden to become a better gardener. Actively experimenting with soil creation, propagating plants, mini nursery
Perhaps one day I will make money from my flowers or as a nurseryman or as an educational workshop setting (either for personal healing or permaculture) but right now I am lucky enough that I simply get to play.
Evidence of Peer Review
Virgina feedback in italics. My response in plain text.
"Really admire your copious and unaffected delivery in front of the camera!"
This made me feel good and want to do more videos
"I will say I had some trouble reading left to right and then scrolling down."
This has gone into my being to notice and consider. I like the back and forth (up/down left/right) AND, Virginia's feedback makes me consider HOW LONG web pages are as I can imagine this becomes overwhelming. I think that seeing a page as flowing when looking at it is more important to me than a continuous narrative down one side then the other. I don't want to change my style and I want to move toward better user experience.
"Skill-flexes were offered in text format, an image expressing this content, say from a pre-capstone state and presently would be nice"
I will keep the text for OP 4 and incorporate a visual image for OP 5 reflections on skill-flexes.
"Wondering how you plan ( or have) to gain feedback from the participants?"
This comment inspired me to have a follow up call with Abby and Diane after our week at Land of Milk & Honey this year.
"We aren't going to replicate the field very well unless we can enable others to be excited and purposeful"
I have recently been receiving loads of feedback that my passion is perhaps my maximum point of leverage. As a 7, this excites me. I believe that I am skilled at much of what I do; and, I have always acknowledged that rather than being a master, I am content as a jack-of all trades, so digesting the feedback that my enthusiasm shines through has been an interesting process for me regarding what my place is in the eco-social change movement.
"I would have found it helpful to have a link to your LIPD related to plans and tracking."
I added a link to my LIPD on 4.1.3

Evidence of Peer Support
I have had loads of engagement with GaiaU in the past year. I am now advising a dozen associates. And I truly feel that my process of growth in my own projects and design is greatly facilitated by the art of advising. In addition, I have met with my advisor numerous times and connected with Ariane as an SFA advisor for support and camaraderie within this peer group. I have been to numerous presentations, as well.
Notes from SFA with Ariane
I learned loads with Ariane.
She answered a few of my specific questions as I am still growing as an advisor.
I think the best part was that we got to chat about being an advisor at Gaia and share challenges and joys.
Great use of SFA hour
and I hope to start having more buddy calls with other advisors.
