This page explains the design framework used to design both the retreat and this output packet, my evaluation of the process, and mind maps of goals throughout the design period

Design Framework of choice

GASADIE is the main design framework I used both for the project itself and output packet design. I feel because of my past in permaculture design, its a framework I am familiar with but I wanted to use this OP to be more explicit on how I use it.

Since eight shields is a core part of the way my brother and I design our retreats, the eight shields design is part of how we designed our retreats.

My review of these choices

For the project, I chose the GADSIE as the main model for the OP, constantly evaluating my goals, surveying what I have to work with and making new goals. This worked well for the most part. I think I could articulate more about this process. I think I do this naturally but am not as good at translating how I do this, which I want to improve on in the next OPs. I did do a good job at shifting and changing based on different factors and created an amazing project overall.

Goals for Re-wilding Judaism Retreat

Evaluation of goals for the Design Process

OP DESIGN METHODOLOGY

  • I used Andrew's design template as I had planned.
  • As for growth edges suggested by Liam and Ava, I was able to meet some and not others. I put a lot more emphasis on grammar and spelling than last time and kept track of word count for this OP. I also included feedback from participants as Ava suggested. I did not include links on the bottom of every page which I added to the last OP. I also did not add a section to celebrate turning this OP in on time although I do mention it throughout the OP. As for Liam's suggestions, I did not include a chart which I did add to the last OP. I did include more outcomes and express what I would do differently. I am working on explicitly my design process but this is something I need to continuously work on.
  • I did include Digiphon journaling on my notes for reviewers page
  • I also played more with Video Journaling as I planned for implementable tasks
  • I am proofreading although this is something I can also get better at
  • I have also expressed my learning and unlearning process but again can become more explicit with this

CORE REPORT DESIGN METHODOLOGY

  • I think I did a good job of nailing down the process that my brother and I use to create the retreat including all of the forms and elements we use.
  • I messed up on the feedback form and wasn't able to complete a solid form before the retreat because I put my energy in other places. We did not have a feedback form to give participants in the end and wrote questions on a whiteboard and had them write the answers on white sheets of paper. A lot of them did not putt their names on it and it was harder to have them neat and organized. Next retreat, I DEFINITELY plan to have a feedback form.
  • We did not end up creating a video mission statement which I also plan to do next OP/retreat. It's convenient that the next OP also covers another retreat we are putting on so goals I wasn't able to follow through with on this retreat I am able to move to the next one.
  • I read the books I had intended to
  • We were able to get some good food photos from the retreat which was a big goal for us. We were not able to get sample menus but its something we are currently working on.

The Design Process I co-created with Liam

Goals Articulation
Use the template Andrew offered
Play with growth edges suggested by Ava or Liam
Include all essential elements for the OP: Digiphon journalling,

SURVEY
Peer and Pro review feedback from OP 2, (LCR and LIPD) - for growth edges
Other Gaia U associate OP’s

ANALYSIS

DESIGN
Could be a mind map or diagram or process moving toward actionable steps.

Implementable Tasks
Play with Video Journalling
Play with Structured Journalling

Evaluate
Proofread
learning & unlearning

CORE REPORT DESIGN METHODOLOGY
(Explicit articulation)

Goal Articulation
Nail Down the process of running a 2 day retreat
Includes: Food
Collaboration
Emails/Connection
Feedback Forms

Take pictures of Food
Document the food
Investigate working with others
Observes roles Dor/Ophir take  (logistical / facilitation/ . . . .)
Observe how we include Abra
Get feedback from Abra on how it is to work with Dor/Ophir as a unit and Dor and Ophir separately
Create Feedback Form
Write:
“This is why we do it/“
“this is why we choose these sites”
“this is why we design this menu”
Create mission statement
Create video mission statement (why, how, what we offer)
Create connection to place to make rewilding judaism tangible in a sit spot/ and/or on the mountaintop

SURVEY
Abra feedback form
Previous feedback forms
Culture of Belonging
Women who Run with the Wolves
What other resources do you need to get your goals done. . . . .?

Analysis
Intersection of Survey (Boundaries/Resources/Observation) and Goals

Design

Implementable Actions
Turn your GOALS into IMPLEMENTABLE TASKS for yourself (or for delegation)

Evaluation
Review abstract and concrete outcomes.
This more likely will be done POST RETREAT

I’m seeing this as a nice opportunity to have some concrete outcomes such as
Sample Menus
Mission Statement
Food photos
Feedback Form
