XII. Apply Self-Regulation and Accept Feedback

Sophie travelled to Haiti after two weeks at the International Permaculture Convergence and Conference to partake in an Advanced PDC in wasteland regeneration. The contrast was astounding upon crossing the border of the Hispaniola countries. Lush Domincan jungles turned into cactus trees and moon-scape bedrock. For centuries, no one had cared to regulate their charcoal harvesting, thus creating a seemingly irreparable desert.

Un/Learning commentary

I vow to make conscious choices in my lifestyle and thoroughly examine my actions in regards to People Care, Earth Care, and Redistribution of Surplus. I am defensive and competitive in my relations, and I hope to address these short-comings when given constructive criticism. I aim to be more honest and positive in my feedback and observe from a distance for a holistic view before addressing issues.

Conclusion: It Always Depends...

One day, after reading through some proverbs and famous quotations, Sophie noticed some inconsistencies.

"Mom, why does one phrase say to act this way and yet another suggests the opposite?"

"Because it always depends. No one is ever quite certain. No one will ever be perfect."

She determined to never be certain of anything, shying away from absolutes, recognizing that grey is just a mix of black and white.
