Guidelines for reading

For an overall orientation I provided a table of contents above. It is not necessary to read the OP in its presented order but it would make it easier to follow. The Core Report starts with an introduction of the Design Process I applied. I recommend to read this page. The next four pages are project related. The first and the third one each provide a Summary of the Bee and the Education project. The second and the fourth page give more details about my work in these projects. To gain a superficial insight into my projects you can read the summarizing pages. For more details about my work I recommend to read the detailed pages as well. To dive in even deeper just follow the additional links and material provided in the detailed pages and the Supporting Evidence. Most of my documents are shared through Dropbox. If you are logged-in to Dropbox you can see them directly, otherwise click the button which says "Continue to document". All texts or Mindmaps marked with 'Additional' or 'Optional' include further information and are not necessary to follow the Main Report. To navigate in this OP just click on the blue buttons.

Feedback from previous OPs

In this OP I integrated the following feedback:

  • fewer projects documented in one OP
  • process and pathway reflections are separated
  • practical examples and learning experiences are given
  • simple description and reflection on OP Design included
  • just one design process (no overdesigning)
  • design process and its use for the projects explained (I went into more detail about each design stage)
  • I expanded my capacities to experiment, reflect, observe and conceptualize

Summary

This Output Packet (OP) is the second project related OP I deliver. In the community "Lebensgarten Steyerberg", where I live right now, I could work on plenty of projects. My environment is so diverse in people with great experience and knowledge that it was difficult to choose certain projects. This OP describes within two action learning areas - Bees and Education - the balance between thinking and doing as well as personal inspirations and external knowledge.

The purpose of my bee-keeping project has the following aspects: On the one hand my goal is to learn practical bee-keeping by applying an abstract theoretical concept and test how it works. On the other hand my goal is to expand my knowledge about bees by consciously applying a certain learning strategy. The 'practical bee-keeping' part and the 'learning theory' part replenish each other, primarily because I learn the theoretical content of a certain concept without which I would not be able to do anything practical. At the same time I work on my personal learning ability by testing how I can expand my capacity to learn and recall the content after a certain amount of time.

The purpose of my education project has the following aspects: On the one hand my goal is to gain and improve my "teaching" or "facilitating" abilities. Therefore I had the opportunity to assist on two different education projects, which I both documented in this OP. On the other hand I observed how to design environmental education, in a way that is fun for the pupils and the teachers/facilitators. This project is completely at the beginning and this OP just shows the fist steps of a probably long journey.

But nevertheless the point of intersection I see with these two Action Learning Areas (Education and Bees) is the general topic of "learning". In the "Learning theory" project I work to expand my learning capacities and in the "School and Student" project I observe how pupils and students learn. In the future I will probably combine these two projects in order to develop an effective and fun learning concept.

The Output Packet begins on this page with a short Summary and a guideline for reading. Then I will introduce the design process and learning cycle I used in order to design my projects and this OP. The following four pages are all part of the Core Report. The Core Report includes:

  • one summarizing page for the action learning area 'Bees', where the applied design process can be seen
  • one detailed page about 'practical bee keeping' and 'learning theory'
  • one summarizing page for the action learning area 'Education', where the applied design process applied can be seen
  • one detailed page about the 'school project' and the 'student workshop'

After the Core Report my OP includes a Pathway Reflection, where I talk about how I managed and tracked my pathway as well as my promises. After that page comes a Project and Process Reflection, where I present my further OP plans, a time line and my weaknesses and strengths during the production of OP3. The OP ends with Supporting Evidence about bees, education and participation records.
