Conclusion
This OP covered the more technical aspects of the recording process of SunDog. I hope that this report can act as a helpful tool for others on the pathway of home recording and independent distribution. The more that musiciasns collectively move toward independent production, the more freedom those individuals will have in their creative process. This can also create a greater opportunity to build a cooperative network of DIY musicians and producers to aid in one anothers' projects and develope a new paradigm of self-empowered artists, whom rather than relying on recording labels to dictate and distribute their music, we can instead work together as a golbal family of sonic community to help each other through cooperation and mutual benefit.
Commentary
The creation of this output went through many transitions before its completion. I began with little steam as I was first writing it as kind of a project update in reference to the OP before. My direction shifted after a few advising sessions and the recognition that I was writing more of a journal entry rather than an actual output. So after recognizing the need for more analysis and technicality in the report, I assembled the available information and with great vigor, worked diligently over a period of two weeks. I lost momentum after putting off completion for various social events and a newfound discovery that I would be journeying to New Zealand a month later. I didn’t work on my output at all in New Zealand and after a month, returned to immediately dive into musical projects and events to which I was devoting most of my energy. After touching in again with my Gaia pathway, I saw that it was time to dive in once again to finish this OP. So, over a period of a few weeks, I began editing and revising what I had written the months before. I realized the pendulum had swung from ‘too much commentary and not enough analysis’ and into the reverse, leaving me with feelings of overwhelm. As my creative plans and projects moved forward, I realized that putting off the completion of an OP that was 80% done was no longer serving me. So, here I am, Finishing my 4th output. When I diligently commit to working without distractions, the process flows wonderfully. The problem was that I began to want to simplify the OP, which just made everything feel more complicated because I was beyond word count and still had sections to add. After recognizing that this is an ongoing learning process, and that it has been too long since I turned in my last OP, I am cutting myself some slack and turning it in without attempting to make it immaculate. My advisor Jennifer has helped me tremendously in this process and for her I am infinitely grateful.
