Designing for All Our Relations
Care for the Earth is the first permaculture ethic, which means designing and creating the provision for all life systems to continue and multiply, that is for soils, forests, wetland and more to regenerate. A major aspect of this is how we design for biodiversity, how we aim to support the thousands of species that benefit our gardens and exist for their own terms.
To best design for biodiversity I took the following steps:
- Looked at best practice as promoted by conservation organisations
- Researched priority species as part of the local biodiversity action plan so that I can intentional create habittat and support these species
- Looked at recommended practices for organic farms
- Researched plants loved by widlife
This research then informed by biodiversity goals for Brook End which can be found here.
'All our relations' also relates to our human communities and I have explored how Brook End can become a community resource, a summary of this work can be found here.
